THC or CBD, that is the Question

THC or CBD, that is the Question

Did you know that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are the two primary ingredients in a cannabis plant? The question is, what are they and what are their specialties? These two cannabinoids are chemical compounds promising innate medicinal value to people with health issues. Many cannabis varieties are popular for their high levels of THC and many people use this cannabinoid to get a high – and to treat conditions like pain, depression and anxiety. But little do people know that CBD is entering the lime light more and more due to its innate medicinal properties and the plus that it is NOT psychoactive, so more agreeable to more people.

What are the main differences between THC and CBD?

  • Legalities – most countries have stringent regulations regarding cannabis and THC because this compound makes people high and can be counter-productive and addictive. In the USA, for example, marijuana is illegal because it is classified as a Schedule I drug. A Schedule I drug, as defined by the Drug Enforcement Administration, is a substance that has a high potential of being abused by its users and has no acceptable medical uses. But it turns out that CBD is technically legal in the USA and is being used in many other countries in a pharmaceutical form as it very clearly is a wonderful health medicine.
  • Getting High – THC is psychoactive because it makes you high. It can be dangerous if not used carefully as it can increase ill-health symptoms such as anxiety, paranoia, insomnia, lack of appetite and confusion which is not great for people suffering mental illnesses. CBD, on the other hand, does quite the opposite – it instills a sense of calmness, increases appetite, eases pain and inflammation and there are many other stories where CBD has assisted patients with immune disorders. CBD is used for people suffering from Schizophrenia thanks to its antipsychotic qualities.
  • Sleep – THC is also known to assist patients with insomnia to sleep well as it is a powerful sedative. CBD increases alertness and rejuvenates energy levels.
  • Anxiety – it is known that THC can induce paranoia and stress in those who take it as it is a psychoactive compound. These psychosis-like impacts do not occur when patients take CBD – instead, the CBD promotes calmness and removes the stressful emotions, especially when used as part of a health plan.

The evidence remains that THC is psychoactive while CBD is a natural medical therapy. THC or CBD, that is the question? It all depends on what ails you and what you can handle as part of your medical treatment. THC is mostly illegal which means more people are trying CBD to treat illnesses and to boost their immune systems. THC and CBD interact with cannabinoid receptors in the human body (the endocannabinoid system) and yet they have very different effects.
